We just finished this modification, and it was relatively easy.

We just bent over the inside section of track with a pair of visegrips (kinda nasty, but that way we wouldn't have the sparks from cutting/grinding), layed on the salvaged swivel bases, and used a mig under a big sheet of fire retardant fabric. We cut out the front sheet metal (careful to not remove the bracing!) so we have a map pocket under the seats now. We used some of that plastic u channel (like around the door pillar) to get rid of the nasty metal edge, and glued a block of 1x3 to the back of the compartment so the maps wouldn't run into the battery.

We then cut the battery box covers in half, and sectioned them and tacked them back together. They work dandy. A little snip snip of the carpet, a tuck here and there, reglue of the carpet on the wheelwell... and tada!

I was just dissapointed the drivers seat didn't swivel all the way around.<sigh> In fact, if I would have been thinking, I don't think I would have even installed the drivers side. Perhaps a removable steering wheel? ; )

At 01:10 AM 8/8/2001 -0400, you wrote:

In a message dated 8/8/01 1:08:18 AM Eastern Daylight Time,
bscotto@UREACH.COM writes:

where can i find these... i have a 82 and i want completly new
seats... do both driver and passenger swivel... how much is the
going rate

you must cut them out of a junked vanagon camper...

chris

|
