I would also check wrecking yards for a good used motor out of a late model Golf or Jetta especially if you need rebore/new pistons. Maybe shop around for a new 1.9 longblock from a foreign parts dealer near you; especially if you have a camper. Also allow for the inevitable extras....clutch,idler pulley, rebuilt injectors, pump, etc. Your shop/mechanic usually have their own parts sources who's quality they trust and will in turn mark up to you. Buying your own parts works best when you do your own work. It's wise to be aware of parts prices from your own research to keep them honest. Hope this helps,
