Michelle,

That is a really simple job, not one that necessarily needs a Vanagon specialist. Anyone who does VW repair should be able to handle it. Just don't take it to one of the muffler chains.

For other repairs though, the place to go in Raleigh is Transporter Werks on West Street near the Amtrak station. Shawn there specializes in busses and vanagons.

Hi folks,

I was told by the inspection station around the corner that I'll need a new muffler and tailpipe for my '85 Vanagon GL to pass inspection. I've had many people recommend Lonny as THE person in my area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC) to take your VW to but, alas, he no longer works at the gas station to which I was told to go. Does anyone know his current location or have any other recommendations for reliable yet cheap (it could happen) mechanics in my area?

Thanks in advance, Michelle
