I keep reading how slow these vanagons are. Little confused, as yes, it's slow
getting it up to speed, but I keep reading things like:

I'm out here in flatland USA (Wichita KS) with a 85 Westy that has a stock 1.9L
motor with 190,000+ miles on it. I can cruise all day at 80+ wth no problem.
Have seen 90 many times - not sure what the top speed is - I'm worried when the
tach starts inching near the red zone. I usually keep at at 70 or a little
under to try and increase fuel economy and engine life, but it has plenty of
power left. I imagine going over Snoqualmie pass in Washington would be rather
slow, but we're talking speed on relatively flat highways, right?
Thoughts?
Questions. I've got a 40 pound kayak and would like to mount it on the roof. I
see that Thule offers artifical rain gutters that mount to the fiberglass pop
top to then mount rails (I'd like to mount automaxi). Anybody have any
experience with these pseudo-gutters on the fiberglass top?
