HI there, i have an 84 weeekender with THE backseat/bed. First place, i'll never own another vanagon without one- it is that good. Here is how it works. There is a knob that you pull out that is located just above the rear heat-exhange. If you pull the knob out and lift the seat up, it just hinges up and allows access to under the seat. Now if you lift it up farther you'll hear two clicks and then you just pull up and out a little and the back-rest will slide to where the seat was and the seat (where you put your butt) will slide forward and hang out. IT is that easy. Putting it back together is about as easy- you lift up the farthest out part again till you hear two clicks and then push down and it will all slide back in place. It is a very slick set-up.

The difference between this seat and other non-bed seats is that the cushions don't have many bumps in them so it is more smooth to sleep on.

i hope you have one of these seats.... Matthew
