Subject: Please Help! Michelin Tire Woes in L.A.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I know the subject of tires has been covered and re-covered on the list, but I'm in a jam, so please bear with me.

This morning my '88 Westy blew a front tire on a protruding curb. I pulled out the spare only to note that unlike the other 3 remaining tires (which are all Michelin MXT 205/70 R14's) the spare is a Michelin X 185 R14 (I had not needed the spare since buying the bus from the P.O.).

Money is an issue. The spare can't stay on the bus permanently because it's a different size (right?). I understand from the archives that the 205/70's are no longer being manufactured. Due to the cash shortage, I need to replace two of the 205/70's with something comparable, and hopefully less expensive - these will go on the front, and the two remaining (old) 205/70's will go on the rear. If nothing is less expensive, then I need to know what the comparable options are.

Buying a complete set of 4 new tires is simply not possible right now. Is there a reinforced-sidewall tire made by another manufacturer that will match the two remaining 205/70 R14's?

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Chris Los Angeles
