It is not your nut that is leaking but the head gasket. No pressure should be coming up through the head bolt holes.

Entity Walter E Stephens spoke thus:

I have just replaced the head on 90 Vanagon with a 2.1L engine. I have a leaky cylinder head nut. I have tried 3 different sealants and nothing stops the coolant from leaking past the nut. I can not see a visable crack, but the coolant just flows as if the nut were not there.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, or suggestion to make? I hate to have to remove the head again.
