to the shade tree mechanic
If you have not changed your temp 2 sensor and it has
not been changed for several years this is a job that
anyone can do. It certainly improved my bucking
problem that occurred at starting out in first.
To do the change order two new sensors and orings
from bus depot if you can afford it. Locate the
sensor near the plastic thermostat housing on the
newer vanagons. The correct sensor points toward the
wheel on the 87. Remove the larger metal clip from
underneath the vanagon with a pair of needle nose.
Note how the clip is positioned.
Do not confuse the smaller clip that secures the wire
to the sensor with the larger one that secures the
sensor to the sensor housing. Having removed the
clip, prepare a new sensor with the oring and remove
the old sensor and replace with the new sensor quickly
as to not loose too much juice. Now take the second
new sensor and replace the old sensor with the new
sensor from up above. The smaller clip needs to be
pushed inward to remove it. Becareful not to break
the plastic clip trying to get that small wire clip
off. Attach the new sensor and oring and from below
again swap the new sensor plugging the hole with the
new sensor attached to the wire. twist the sensor
into place an attach the large clip. Take note of
lost juice and do the accounting.
good luck, gary of belmont
