Probably, there haven't been enough of them sold to get much of a handle on
that question. Most folks that do a conversion are doing it to please
themselves and have no intention of selling.
You and I, as aficionados of the breed might be willing to pay extra for a
nice reliable conversion, but I believe that someone from the outside would
be reticent to gamble on another's mechanical abilities, to say nothing of
the vacuum when trying to find a repair shop. I would buy a Vanaru, but I'm
not sure how much of a premium I would pay for the honor without knowing the
installer pretty darned well.
Some seem to think that the Vanagons are collectibles and that removing the
original engine would decrease their value. Probably true, but how
collectible are they? Other than some of the recent models, especially
Syncro Westies with extremely low mileage, most tend to be users, I would
think.
