Bryan, you must have the filter flange, cooler if you are using one, and the oil filter installed if you want to get the oil up to the head when you run the pump with your drill motor. I turned my 1.9's pump with a drill at least a week before I cranked it over for the first time, and it didn't loose the prime (all I did was pour in 4 qts. of oil via the head and run the drill). I had the flange, cooler, and filter installed. I can't recall the rotation direction now, but you know the direction of rotation of the intermediate shaft so see which direction that will turn the gear on the vacuum assist and the oil pump. It has been a while, and I was dealing with '83 mounts and carriers but... You can attach the alloy supports to the block, but I wouldn't attach the moulded rubber mounts and carrier bars yet. Once you have the engine below the engine compartment, jack/hoist it up, mate the engine to the tranny, and jack/hoist it until you can install the mounts and carriers. -Dana- Bryan Belman wrote: > > On that note, I am just about to install my new 1.9 NA > motor this weekend.
