Telephone wire is not nearly heavy enough to bother installing. Run some decent size wire back there. I ran 4 new wires underneath the Vanagon and installed clip style speaker connections under the back seat (on top of the rear seat heater box). I have Sony bookshelf speakers that I can point anywhere and stow under the seat if necessary. If you are using the stock location speakers, the "widget" from Crutchfield or whomever, would be the easiest to use.

You're going to have to run that extra wire. Get some 4 conductor telephone cable and run a set of four wires. Same labor involved and it gives you some spare wires at that location if you need them in the future. I haven't use but the one wire but I've got spare wires there if I ever need them.
