I have all 3 replacement inlets on TURD. The water-fill is not as nice as the old one, but easier to fill when camping away from a hose. The city water scares me too much to use since every campground seems to have 200psi water pressure and I know it will trash the connections somewhere while I sleep allowing me to wake up, jump down and land on soaked carpet. The electric inlet has broke 3 times, twice I sent it back to Ron who replaced it with no hassles. The last time it broke I looked closely and discovered that the hypersonic weld was done too quickly. A little time with a soldering iron fixed it well. If it goes again I'll design my own.

The trouble is that VW used a single manufacturer to supply the parts. If you want something better be prepared to hack the van, design your own, or see if another list member is willing to market something. If you look at modern RVs they often have a large compartment for the A/C inlet. To duplicate this you'd have to be willing to give-up some serious space inside. Just because it's VW OEM doesn't mean it's good.
