Erm, this appears to describe the standard fitment on my '91 van. The opening is really small, until you squeeze the sides together at which point the flap opens enough to put a standard hose down and into the filler. It has the small plastic key (which lives in my ashtray) and whilst not the most robust of designs seems to work as advertised...
