My 1.9 had spun #2 rod bearing. The oil was mayonnaise like. Oil neglect, including the use of gas oil rather than diesel oil, can cause this, and, when the first bearing complains, the owner usually doesn't use it much more out of worriedness. I don't think a band-aid approach would give you much. When you remove the rod cap on #2 you'll be able to see the damage. If it's not too bad you can have the rod resized, and it will be a couple thousandths shorter than the rest. It probably makes more sense to buy a used good set and go from there. I resized mine because I couldn't find a replacement at reasonable cost. A little white smoke for the first 1/2 minute at first start in the morning is all I notice that can be attributed to the resizing.
