Hi Towees,

Ron of BustDepot fame markets a very fine hitch system that bolts in place
of the rather flimsy metal backing for the 1989? and up composite bumpers.
It is specifically manufactured for the vanagon and can probably be found on
his website.

I modified mine to accept a 2" receiver.  The cost was on the order of 300
USD including the modification.  I seem to recall the hitch unit was around
150USD but check with busdepot.
