Thanks to all on the list who replied! From all of your replies, I was able to find out:

1) Yes, it does work! 2) Get the "metallic" coatings, not the "film" type. 3) Average cost is just over $200.

Now instead of wandering into a shop and ending up with the wrong stuff, or paying way too much for it, I feel like I'm at least a little informed..........

And several of you were interested in the spray silicone lubricant/penetrant for the upper control arm bushings- it's called LPS (was recommended to me by my mechanic as a stop-gap) and seems to work o.k., at least so far. Didn't entirely make the squeaks go away- I'd say that now they're just "slippery squeaks"! Still gotta do those bushings.......
