I have no answer to the question of why the unit will not cool on propane when it does quite well on 120vac and the heat seems to be getting to the cooling unit equally in both situations.

However, I am aware of 2 companies which rebuild ammonia refrigerators. One is ATCO in Philomath, Oregon (800) 227-3180 or (541) 929-2820 and the other is Cool-Fun in Irwindale, Calif. (818) 960-5456

These numbers are several years old, so you may have to do some chasing down if area codes have changed. This should be a good starting point for someone who needs a rebuild.
