On that note, I am just about to install my new 1.9 NA motor this weekend. I have been working on this for a few months now.

Can I get some hints on how to prime the oil pump. I know to attach a drill to the pump shaft through the vacume pump hole.

1. Do I run the drill forward or reverse direction?

2. If I prime the pump while the motor is still on the block, but it may take me another week until I am ACTUALLY ready to start the motor for the first time, am I wasting my time?

3. Should I wait to try and prime the pump until JUST before I am ready to start the motor?

4. Do I want to run the drill until I see oil coming out of the head as well, or is oil getting to the oil filter flange good enough?

Thanks I am just about at he butterfly stage and losing sleep now. --- Greg Rich <Dieselvwguy@AOL.COM> wrote: > The best choice in my opinion is the VW 1.9 liter > diesel without a turbo and > an aircooled transmission (for proper gearing). > Excellent torque, longevity, > very simple and affordable, any diesel mechanic can > fix it (who fixes a > Subaru Vanagon in the middle of nowhere on a long > weekend?) no turbo to kill > the engine prematurely.
