Thomas,

All these questions have been asked before and answered by both the industry and here in this forum. The archives are full of them.

IIRC Oettinger started tweaking T3's for VW with water-cooled flat-6's, four wheel discs and leather interiors.

Projektzwo followed closely behind, etc., etc., etc. Winkler is the Johnny come lately in the scene.

MSDS makes a kit to install a Porsche G-50 trans in a Vanagon along with a 3.2 Carrera engine or even a Chevy V8. Listee William Kennedy et al. have installed the 901 & 915 trannies in there too for much less money.

I'm sure Kennedy (not related to Bill above) -- Hobart I think. Probably makes an adapter plate to install just about any engine on a VW and/or a Porsche Transmission.

All of these things have been done and continue to be done. The tricky parts is cost. Anything and everything can be made to fit. It is simply a question of how mcuh$$$. The less expensive you go, the less you get most of the time but not necessarily.

Go to my homepage and look around the links section. I've even fooled around with a rear disc system as you can see there.
