Hi all. I've got a circuit design question. The patient is a 1997 Golf, so there's no proper Vanagon content here... but the principles are all the same so maybe this isn't entirely off-topic. I've just procured a new Votex rallye grill with two CIBIE driving lights built into it. They're your basic 55W/12v, 3-wire harness -- couldn't be more straightforward. I'm looking for advice on how to best wire these in, given my priorities of candlepower, and ease of future upgrades. I could gang the new lights onto my highs, lows, or running lights without putting an undue strain on anything. But I'd like to get them on a separate switch -- either on the center console, or with a factory euro-spec headlight switch (which apparently has a setting for fogs only, rather than fogs-and-everything-else.) The big thing here is that I expect to add 2-4 more CIBIE Oscars, or Hella 3/4000s in a hood-pod or bumper bar, and I'd like to be able to support that load with the wiring I'm about to do now. AND ideally, use a factory switch. So I'm assuming I have to get some relays in there to get the (eventually substantial) load off the switch. Anybody have part numbers, schematics, etc? All advice, anecdotal evidence or empric wisdom is greatly appreciated -- particularly as pertains to the relays and wire gauge. Best, Isaac Taylor Cambridge, Mass. |
