Subject: Vented rotors for '86-91 ?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I just checked the front rotors on my '88 Westy, and found they're not vented! I could have sworn they were vented last time I looked... But since nobody has touched the brakes in 5 years, I must be losing my mind. So, can I get vented rotors to fit stock calipers/hubs? I suspect not, since there doesn't seem to be much room in the caliper like there is in the Golf/Jettas.

According to records from the PO, brakes were done all round at 208k km (now at 367k km), including new rotors, pads, drums, shoes, all from the dealer ($1300 ouch!), so I can assume I have the good VW front pads. They still seem to have a reasonable thickness left at the front (maybe 4-6mm, I haven't pulled them yet) - what is the typical life for front pads? Rotors are a bit over 14mm in thickness, at least according to my 14mm open end wrench.

I'll probably just do the pads/shoes & fluid, & turn the rotors, unless I can find a reasonable vented upgrade, which doesn't seem too likely (I just searched & found a few at $500 US...)
