Our top was fuzzy and thrashed too. Lotsa mold... and in pretty rough shape. In fact, I bought the bus without seeing the top, and if I had... I probably would not have bought the bus! The mold was unbelievable! Since we live on the Oregon coast, and cars just don't get washed here.... as well as being able to tie kayaks to the top without to much stress... we have decided to paint the top with a bedliner product that rolls on and has a great texture. It rains here (a total understatement) so the additional sealing of the bolts and around the seals is appreciated as well. Also, we don't have to atomize it into the air since it is rolled. It's a two part system, so it's still toxic as all hell.... but a good respirator and gloves should do the job if we aren't throwing it into the air. It is also sprayable.. if you have an undercoating gun. The neat part is it doesn't require all the prep! After 3 days sanding our top with a DA, I realized that a new gelcoat was going to be necessary or 10 coats of primer! It cost about $50 per kit, and we purchased 2 since it's bigger than a bed of a pickup. I'll post pics after it's done. We're just waiting for the rain to stop to lay it on!
