If it's a little tiny green light that comes on when the switch is on, it's your rear window defogger. Normally this is mounted above the hazard light switch, but I've seen people manage to switch 'em. There are usually only two switches on the right side, so if there are three, this was an addition. If it's the rear defogger switch you COULD use it for a light switch, as long as you are ONLY using it to control a relay that feeds battery power to the lights. This switch is NOT heavy enough to handle the constant load going to auxiliary headlights.

Hey Vanagon Experts,

What is the purpose of the rocker switch in the lower right side of my instrument cluster? It looks just like the head light switch on the left. I can't find any reference to this switch in the electrical section of the Bentley manual. I can find the main head light switch in the manual. This switch also has an LED on it. Is it for AUX. or driving lights?

The reason why I ask is that I want to install some aux. head lights and would like to use this switch.

Thanks, Ed Shultz 1987 Syncro GL Photos: http://homepage.mac.com/eshultz/PhotoAlbum.html
