Subject: 1986 Syncro Help
Content-Type: text/plain

I'm considering buying an 86 Vanagon Syncro GL.

The vehicle had a bad viscous coupler and it just scares the heck out of me. What does this part cost ? Also the rear differential lock does not hold a vacuum for proper engagement, how much for this part? The Syncro isn't a cripple but shows erratic wear on the front tires. Appearance wise it is a nice car. Does the 86 have a 1.9 or 2.1 Engine ? Current owner #5, claims that the PO installed a rebuilt engine and tranny about 20K ago and the vehicle has about 181K on it.

I've noticed that the price on these Syncros are all over the board, looks like it depends on what town you're in.

Any input would be appreciated. I'd like to buy this Syncro but I can't afford another child. If I can't make it fully functional under a thousand dollars after I buy it, I can't get it.
