I recommend you check the wild fires and pick the best entrance from that point of view. The signs on the way pretty much tell you which route has the "levelest" hills. This is simply a matter of degree <g>...lots of mountains either way.

We were just there and went in the east gate and saw a bear...

I recommend you skip the campgrounds in yellowstone and stay in one of the national forests nearby. If you don't check in by 4:00 you will be SOL in the park. The park campgrounds are really large (350) line-them-up affairs...somewhat noisy too.
