Matt,

I once bought a 91 jetta diesel that had a coolant hose burst. The PO put on a head gasket but still no compression. The rings were stuck to the pistons. A liberal dose of WD-40 freed then up. However I would try MMO first next time.

I just picked up an 84' GL which overheated the last time it was driven. It has been parked for about a year. That's all I know from the PO. It seems to crank well and sound generally fairly healthy, but it won't fire. It has good spark, and fuel delivery at the injectors looks good. A compression test showed only 30 psi on 2 cylinders, I'm assuming this is a result of the overheating. I have a few questions; 1) What is the typical damage from overheating? ( rings, valves?? ) (The heads still hold coolant) 2) Is it worth investigating futher into this engine or should it go to the scrap heap? Thanks in advance Matt 84' Wolfsburg Weekender "Moby" 84' GL ?? 93 Passat -electrical hazard 46 Hudson 8
