Route 16 from Cody, Wyoming is the easiest climb; relatively gradual.
Route 212 from Red Lodge, Montana is a very steep climb through Bear's Tooth
Pass. Beautiful though, not as "well traveled" as a result of the climb.
Beautiful, scenic pull-offs on the way up and down the West side is a
gorgeous trout stream running a long way with the road, with lots of lunch
spots inviting you to do about a dozen lunches in one day.

Better check with the Park on availability...lots of RVers hit it hard as
soon as school starts. FWIW, we found Yellowstone in August too busy and
over crowded. Use the National Forests for camping. Our next trip there will
be off season.

Our Chevy Astro rental did fine :)   ....Hans was at the body shop after a
hit by a drunk three weeks before the trip.
Previous trip...Not a van...Geo Metro loaded with two guys, camping stuff,
etc... 3 cylinders!  Slow in the passes but easier to see things that way.
