I've seen both the older type AC units like fit the Air Cooled Type IV with the overhead unit above the drivers head. They have York type compressors. I've also seen units that mount in Air Cooled Westy in the back overhead replacing the storage compartment, I just sold a Westy with one of these Westys. In wrecking yards I've seen some nice Water Cooled Vanagon units that mount in the rear overhead and have ductwork that runs down the center roof and have the over the visors air distribution. I think all of these are after market. I've got one of the AC units from an 82 Aircooled Vanagon for sale, it mounts over the drivers head and has ductwork that delivers air to the distribution unit above the visors. (won't work with a Westy but I've heard of people that did a shoehorn fit to use then in Westys).
