Shop labor rates vary from place to place but a properly equiped shop with experienced VW mechanics should be able to turn a clutch job around in about two hours. The parts if purchased over the internet or mail order are approximately $130.00 for the clutch, the preassure plate, throwout bearing and mainshaft pilot needle bearing. If you do this job yourself expect to spend as much as six hours on it using just a floor jack and ramps or jack stands. Reade the manual first! I would highly reccomend servicing the CV joints and replacing the boots at the same time. Another hour or so at the least and $48.00 or thereabouts for the CV boots and quality lubricant.
