Stephen,

I had to have mine replaced on the road in October, 1998. We were fortunate to be directed to Rick Marrett at the I-40 Auto Service in Black Mountain, NC. I mention Rick to recommend him again to anyone having problems (or if you are lucky enough to live in the Black Mountain area) when passing through the NC mountains on I-40.

Parts were $305, though this included a complete clutch kit including bearings, the sleeve and clutch fork, and a fedx shipping charge for the fork. Flywheel resurfacing was $24, Labor was $165, Total came to $511. We were very happy with this, he even came in and open up on sunday so we could get home.

The previous owner had had the clutch replace twice by and incompetent mechanic here in Durham (no logger in business) for over $700 each time.

I strongly recommend replacing the sleeve and clutch fork, as well as all the bearings, it cost a little more but will keep you from doing the job again in 10k miles. I would have done the job myself if I were in my own driveway. Could do it on the road, but never want to.

Drive well, jim
