So what you're saying is : If it starts to show signs of detonation, floor it. Does this count as detonation? I had the fastest West on Highway 30 West about three years ago. At 85 MPH it went Diesel on me, started blowing oil (lucky my rear window was clean, lot of it wound up there) the oil light didn't come on for another five minutes. I collapsed the ring lands on # 4 cylinder, scored the cylinder, broke a couple of rings on other cylinders. I put a quart of oil in every 35-40 miles and drove it 250 miles home. Sure broke them tailgaters. This little racing trip cost me about $400.00 in parts and twenty hours sweat equity.
