I've installed a Yakima roof rack on my '01 EV Weekender. I'm certain that when the rack is fully loaded with surfing/windsurfing gear, the struts will not support the weight and hold the poptop open. I've checked out the ingenious solution at http://www.jps.net/shilohz/vanagonyakima.html and would like to install similar PVC strut supports in my poptop. Problem: I can't figure out how to disconnect either end of the blasted strut in order to sleeve the PVC over the strut. I've looked all over the web for instructions to no avail. Have any of you gurus ever removed the struts in a poptop? Is there a book or manual that might show the trick for this procedure? Thanks.
