Hi Volks, Thanks a lot to all who answered my water pump querry. Turns out I made arrangements with our trusty Ken Wilford at vanagain.com (thanks, Ken, for your excellent service), headed out, taking a calculated risk. The water pump did slowly deteriorate over the 4200 kms, making more and more noise, leaking intermittently a small bit, but we were able to travel with the spare as security and peace of mind (I still would not have wanted to do the job roadside...). Back home, the new pump is installed and the engine is running just dandy. BTW, I did the "rear end up" method of cooling system bleeding this time, as described in the archives. Having done the "front end up" method before, I highly recommend the "rear end up" method: much simpler and efficient way to "burp" the cooling system. For those with transmission expertise, see my next post... here we go again, hopefully not too deep in the pocket...
