My 75 1.8 Bay (with slip-in 1916 kit with one burning piston) would sit on 80mph (factory-stated cruising speed) fully loaded all day, and would hit 87 and still accelerating when overtaking, so I have trouble believing that US-market T3s are so slow. Up a long (2-3mi) and very steep highway uphill grade it would slow to 50mph in 3rd and hold there. My speedo was accurate enough.

Fastest I've been in an aircooled VW van? Over 100mph in my fully-loaded 36hp 56 split. Fully loaded. But it WAS with the clutch pushed in, coasting down the same hill mentioned above!
