Make sure your knock sensor is connected. If it is, then try a tank of high-test. Then, if you can find one, have the timing checked with VAG 1551 or 1552 (VW OBD scan tool) - I'm not entirely sure about the accuracy of the timing marks supplied with the conversion... We're working on one in the shop now (our first inline-four conversion since Eurospec evaporated), so we'll let you know how this comes out for us...

All, I'm a new TIICo convert. I've only got 150 miles or so on my conversion, and like it so far.

Anyway, one thing I have noticed in my 150 miles of is some pinging. However, the timing checks out right at 6-7 degrees btdc at 1500 rpm. That's right on spec. Should I retard the timing beyond spec? Will rotating the distributor do anything with the electronic timing control? Or should I just go with high octane fuel (I've got the cheap stuff in there now).

It sure is nice to be able to zip along at 75 mph, no problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.
