My 1.6TD (with aftermarket catalytic converter) in 5th goes about 130 real km/h, which is 81.25 mph. It feels like it might want to go a little faster, but as it gets very close to the red line on the tach when doing that, I prefer not to. Usually cruise around 100-110 km/h and keep it around 3500 rpm. It's nice and quiet at that speed.

The old NA 1.6 D was a different story, of course. Every time that I drove that at its top speed of 110 km/h for any length of time, something (like a gearbox, or a crank shaft, or a timing belt) would break.
