Tim, I don't know much about the auto trans. It may be worth checking to see if your battery cables and earths(grounds )are good for the starter problem -especially if you have aftermarket battery cables-I recently found that mine had steel, not copper ends. I know that stainless steel has 1/50 th the conductivity of pure copper, I wouldn't think that plain steel would be any better Or, you can look at the starter solenoid to see that it activates.
