Mighty list, eventually, I got the shafts out of my (86 Quantum) man. trans. Had a 'clac-a-dee-clac' in 2nd gear at half load (after 220kmi). Found most gears having small dents on top of the teeth with 2nd looking worst. Now my questions: Is this a typical high-mileage wear and does it explain the clac-clac? The 2nd gear on the main shaft got less and smaller dents than its counterpart on the pinion shaft so I'm thinking about just replacing the p.shaft gear (50bucks) because a new m. shaft gear means getting a new m.shaft (>200bucks). Would like to get another 30kmi or so with the sound of silence... Any response very welcome, Mike, Germany 80 Westy 86 GL 86 Quantum (see above) 93 318t |
