Absolutley correct on the BMW motorcycle 12v socket. And they are also still installed on the rear seat panel on the R/H side on the new Eurovans.

Looked at a new one last week and, as I was checking out the interior, I saw this rubber plug on the plastic panel,on the side of the rear seat---pulled the rubber plug--there it was, the infamaous Deutschlander 12v receptical.

Wonder why they still install these gizmo's?

Who would ever use them?
