My old '85 GL with the 1.9L engine and about 200,000 original miles on her was a performing son-of-a-gun. I drove from Anchorage Alaska to Birmingham Alabama and once I was fart enough South to get on some decent pavement I put the pedal to the metal. Came all the way from Ft. Collins, Co to Ft Smith Arkansas in a day. I kept it punched up and cruising 75-80 all the way. That Damn sorry section of I40 through Arkansas sure slowed me down. I'm really suspicious that federal highway funds for up keep of that road were diverted to supply backroom political gatherings with Alaska Snow!!!! -[;<)>

The concrete panels that surface the road are still like curled potatoe chips laid end to end. You simply don't make time on I-40 through there. If you do, you will need to buy a new set of shocks at the state line!!
