Derek -

What with all of the discussions we have had about load capacity, pressure, etc., I've always been sort of curious - what are the specs on factory-issue tires?

Could you note down what the sidewall says and post it? Does the size have a C after it, what's the maximum pressure, maximum load, is there a load range number (93, 97 etc) and so on.

Also, I'm curious about the durability of older tires. I spoke to a Michelin dealer once about the warranty on a tire that was starting to show cracks on the sidewall. IIRC, he said that they wouldn't warrant a tire against sidewall failure after four years, because the rubber naturally aged and lost flexibility. What do you think?

Thanks

I have six factory original MXLs available for sale. If you have a set of these but are missing one or want an extra one in case one of yours goes bad, you might one to get one of these from me because it has been out of production for years and you cannot buy these at the tire store any more. So here is a chance to stock up or fill out your stock to be 100% the same tire.

These are the actual tires that were fitted on my 87 and 90 Syncro Westfalia as the vehicle came from the dealer, and they have been sitting in storage because I quickly took them off to install BF Goodrich tires.
