 Auxilliary air regulator.  You can find one at the junkyard on just about
any '80s Saab, Audi, Rabbit, Jetta, etc...  Check the plug too.  Sometimes
you can clean the regulayor with WD-40 and get it to work for a little
while.  You can hook a battery up to it and use a flashlight to see if the
little plate opens up.

Subject: FI problem 81 westy air cooled

Volks,
I am having intermittent problem with what I feel must be the FI.

It runs sort of rough until warmed up; it will start, but wants to konk out
and have low idle until warmed up...after that runs flawlessly.  It used to
run great right from the first turn of the key until a month or so ago.

Occasionally, when driving it will "buck" sort of like power to the engine
is shut off and on for a second.....sometimes a few seconds.....then it runs
like nothing happen.  It is freaky to say the least.

Any help is appreciated.
