Subject:      Re: Oranage coolant leak?
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

I have been using the orange Prestone for two years and I have had no leaks in my 2.0 Golf powered Vanagon. Perhaps it's a WBX issue?

I will let you know if I develop leaks. It is possible that flushing and the coolant change is enough to dislodge sediment particles that are plugging leaks in old heater cores. I had a heater core leak just for flushing the system with water back when I was using the green stuff.

I was warned however by a VW dealer tech not to use VW orange antifreeze-that it causes leaks and ruins water pumps. It is a problem they are having in the new VW's that they are using it in.

It is hard to say, though.

A listmember on vacation here from Florida had to make an emergency stop to replace his oil cooler, which is brand new in his Tiico I-4, which blew and filled his cooling system with oil. What a mess! the expansion tank was bubbling out a mocha of oil/water and resembled a miniature lava flow.

Finally, I sought the advice of a local VW mechanic who said they (the dealer) use a few bottles of Shout to clean out the oil from the cooling system.

So, what could be causing a new oil cooler to blow? An oil pressure spike? Corrosion, or just defective new parts? He was using the green stuff-and has now switched to Prestone extended life. Well, keep you posted if either he or I spring leaks.
