Subject:      Mounting screw-in cup holders in Van ?

I've got some cup holders that take 6 screws and would like to mount them
below the AUTO shift lever in the 87 Westfalia one towards the driver one
towards the passenger anyone know how big of an air gap is  behind all that
black plastic ? my other and first choice was below( way) the radio but
there seems to be way two many air ducts there! .     Lloyd in Eureka, Calif
