brian, some ? for you....

Are you going to be sleeping in your van at truck stops or motelling it?
Do you have a conceal and carry permit?
Do you have a pickle fork?
If you get the alarm, what would prevent someone from just busting out the
little tiny triangle window and         opening your doors?
Also, do you have any lockboxes you could put under the rear seat so that
in case your van got broken     into, your valuables won't get stolen?

and some suggestions:
Purchase a CB
Get a removable magnet mount and a 3 foot loaded whip antenna... so you can
place the antenna smack dab     in the middle of your roof.
If you can, get a linear amp for the cb.. i got a 250 amp one for 100 bucks

Get a cell-phone that works across the country.

most of my suggestions are modes of communication.... thye are infinitely
more helpful than just battening down the hatches when you leave the van alone.
