Subject: Re: Question about HAMMERING, new 1.9l NA motor, today

Hi all, today I got my Overland 1.9l NA block with 1.6l hydraulic head running. I am using my stock 1.6l injection pump that was serviced and tested out Great. We set the stroke on the pump to 1.03 which also controls the timing??? I had the motor running for maybe 1.5 hours in all today, enough to get the lifters pumped up and motor to operating temp. We bleed the coolant system and clutch, all OK there.

I would say I am hearing a hammering sound that I can actually feel when I put my hand on the injection lines. Does this mean the timing is to early...........>?? We could not insert the timing pin and get the motor to TDC when installing the timing belt. My mechanic, who has worked on many VW diesels, but I would say is not a total expert, said that is OK that we were not able to get the pin in and everything to TDC. Another big key is I am using new 1.9l NA injectors from the Parts Place.

The mechanic said to run it and let it works its way out. I feel this is hammering, pulling the cold start level should make it worse.

What do we need to do, move the pump and back-off on the stroke to 1.00 or .97 or something.

Aside from this I think we have air getting into the fuel line because on of the injectors started hammering away by not opening, wow, I thought we broke a valve.

Thanks for the help, I will pass it on to mechanic in morning.
