Everyone has their own definition of "big ticket" (based upon the size of their piggy bank) but in addition to what Ben has suggested, other big ticket items might be the steering rack, front heater blower motor (if you pay someone to replace it), tires, and various sections of the exhaust system. Other somewhat smaller ticket items might be the starter motor, alternator, rear wheel cylinders, ball joints, and wheel bearings. I've done all of the above within the past year on my '87 which had 139k kms. (86k mi.) when it all began. I can't wait to put the van into winter storage so I can begin saving for next year's repairs.
