Just passing on the info...

Here's the scoop:
The Hanging Dog campout sponsored by the Cool Breeze VW Club of Cleveland,
Tennessee is this WEEKEND!
A few of us will be leaving from the northside of Atlanta (Perimeter Mall
area) at 3:00 on Friday afternoon to caravan to Murphy and the campground.
If you want to join us, let me know you will be coming so we can look for
you and decide where exactly to meet.
The schedule for the weekend is: Friday night they have a Fish Fry which
usually is $5 per head. Saturday night they have a barbeque that is funded
through T-shirt sales (so everyone buy one or donate for dinner). Both
meals are EXCELLENT. So, you really only need to worry about breakfast and
lunch (and you can donate some dish to the dinners also if you want).
The campground is located on Hiwassee Lake but the portion of the lake that
USED to be next to the campground has dried up! There is a trail from Loop
B you can take to walk to the lake for swimming but you will need to drive
to the boat ramp if you want to put a boat in from the campground. Chris
and I will be taking our kayaks, so if someone wants to paddle with us bring
your canoe or kayak also.
I think it is one of the best campouts of the year. There have been rowdy
folks some times past but we always try not to camp next to the party crowd
and generally have good luck with the other campers - last year we had a
problem with locals who came out to party with one of the VW folks from
Murphy (it was only about 40 people who showed up!).
These are my directions and I suggest if you have never been there to
consult your own map too:
From downtown Atlanta we usually take I-75 North to I-575 (Hwy 5) North. Go
past Blue Ridge and make a left on Highway 60 (sign says Murphy/Mineral
Bluff). In Mineral Bluff make a right in Spur Hwy 60 and take it until it
deadends at Hwy 64/74. Take a right and when you get to the light in Murphy
there should be a sign that says Hanging Dog Campground (Forest Service
brown sign). Turn left and go into downtown Murphy and follow the signs
from there (or ask directions if you don't see a sign).
I believe the campsites are $8 per night (or at least were last year) with
no hookups but bathrooms that are being improved.
