I got my hall sender unit from Ken Wilford. The package came with a new pin and spring. Take note of the numbers stamped on the distributor housing and general description i.e. breather attached to the distributor or not and year of Vanagon. I used the trouble shooting pages in the Bentley to determine that the hal sender was not working. I expect a short in the wiring. I still have to do a timing job. While you are at it replace the the rubber gasket on the distributor shaft.
