When you look at the specs of Vanagon trans on the South African web site, it shows the cheapest model having a 4 speed ( I am guessing it is the one for sale) and all the rest have 5 speeds. Are the SA 5 speeds simply syncro 5 speeds with the "granny" gear, or is it a real 5 speed that would drop my rpms at 70 mph. On my 85, 70mph is at 3600rpm, what I want is a 5th gear to drop it down to 2600-2800rpm when cruising on level ground, but be able to downshift into 4th to climb interstate hills which I feel would work better then simply a 4 speed. If these are available in SA how do I go about getting one?? Nathan 85 Westy 74 Bus
